Michael Santero
Senior Director of Asset Management

Michael is responsible for the development and implementation of Abode’s strategies to preserve and enhance the value and condition of Abode’s affordable real estate rental communities. He will also supervise asset management business plans, create long-term strategic goals with the senior management team, review and create new systems to monitor goals for the department and corporate entities, and initiate the annual operating budget process for Abode’s real estate portfolio.

He possesses more than 25 years of asset management experience. Prior to joining Abode, Michael worked at First Community Housing as Director of Asset Management before being promoted to VP/Chief Operating Officer. He spearheaded the financial turnaround of properties, managed asset and debt strategies, implemented robust management of permanent supportive housing sites, negotiated and managed service contracts, secured significant grants to enhance property infrastructure and support resident services, and fostered strong relationships with service providers, among many other duties and achievements. Michael has been active in community groups such as Bike East Bay, for which he has served as a member of its Board of Directors and chair of the Advocacy Committee. 

Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Science from San Jose State University, and a Master of City Planning and Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a LEED Green Associate from the US Green Building Council.
