‘Treat It Like the Emergency It Is’
We are as focused as ever on our mission. Last year, we assisted 16,758 people and opened multiple supportive housing sites throughout the Bay Area. Abode this year has co-hosted grand openings for three new affordable housing sites, further illustrating our belief that the solution to homelessness is a home.
This wonderful momentum, however, could be quickly dashed because of unprecedented cuts by the federal government. The national budget soon might slash $530 million from its homelessness assistance grants program, which would harm housing and service programs such as rapid rehousing and permanent supportive housing. Even more, cuts to health care and food assistance programs might force two million Californians to lose access to health care, according to The Mercury News.
“Treat this situation like the emergency it is for all the people who are about to lose even more of their ability to meet their basic needs, and the organizations that serve them, and the organizations that are working to mitigate the policy harm,” a nonprofit agency leader told The Center for Effective Philanthropy.
At Abode, our dedicated staff remain committed to our efforts to end homelessness in our community. However, we need your support more than ever. You can give to Abode here, as any donation will help us in these challenging and concerning time. Thank you for your support!
