Abode Volunteers - Youth4Good

Suli Lin is one of Abode’s most dedicated volunteers and her long-term positive impact on the community has been immeasurable. She gives countless hours to help our participants while setting a positive example for the youth in her group to follow.

Lin is the founder of Youth4Good, a nonprofit organization that aims to use community service to instill Bay Area youth with leadership skills and a strong sense of citizenship. The group has hundreds of active members and dedicated volunteers. It offers a variety of activities, including environmental cleanups, online tutoring and classes, supporting local farms and food banks, and serving food to those in need.

Like many Abode volunteers, Youth4Good’s young members prepare and serve food each week — sometimes twice per week — to residents of our Sunrise Village Emergency Shelter.

In fact, they do so much more.

Throughout the year, they organize events and celebrations for those in need, launch community drives, donate backpacks and school supplies for students, and other activities.

They also hold holiday drives each year at Abode housing sites, providing gifts and throwing parties for kids during Halloween and Christmas or serving special meals at Thanksgiving.

“We want to use community service to help kids understand the value of human life, as well as understand the value of their own worth,” Lin said.

Before the pandemic, Youth4Good’s student volunteers offered free tutoring for schoolchildren at Bridgeway Apartments.

Lin said the group’s efforts are as enjoyable for the volunteers as it seems to be for the participants in our programs.

“It’s a meaningful experience for us because it feels really good when you interact with the people you’re helping,” she said. “Through that personal interaction, you get to experience how much residents enjoy the food we’re making, and you truly know the impact. It makes it very personal.”

Thank you, Suli Lin and Youth4Good, for all that you do!
