Happy Veterans Day
This Veterans Day, we honor everyone who has served and sacrificed for our nation.
Our mission to end homelessness, sadly, is tied to the veteran community, as more than 35,500 U.S. veterans nationwide were experiencing homelessness on a given night last year.
Too many veterans serve abroad and then return home only to find that services for mental health and housing are lacking and fail to meet their needs.
It’s one of the saddest contradictions of American life. Almost everyone is quick to praise veterans, but not enough action and basic resources are provided to help them when they really need it after returning home.
Last year, Abode served nearly 500 veterans in our programs. We have developed affordable housing where units are set aside specifically for veterans, and we connect those who served with a wide range of programs and services.
As we observe Veterans Day today, we recognize the incredible sacrifices that veterans have made for this country. We also salute members of Abode staff, including veterans who use their lived experience to inform our efforts and make our work possible.
Thank you – each of you – for your service.
