Pipeline Projects
34th & San Pablo Family Housing
34th & San Pablo Family Housing will be an affordable housing development in Oakland. The development, which will be built next to the historic California Hotel, is being co-developed by EBALDC and Abode Housing Development. The site will provide 59 new affordable rental homes, while one apartment will be a manager’s unit. Thirty of the project’s units will be permanent supportive housing for homeless households, while the remaining apartments will be affordable to households up to 50% Area Median Income to prevent further displacement of Low and Very-Low Income neighborhood residents due to rising rents.
The site is a 15,125-square-foot irregularly shaped lot. The project will be a six-story building totaling approximately 56,621 gross square feet, including 55,690 square feet of residential space and 619 square feet of ground floor commercial space. The building will include a ground-floor commercial space and 43 secured bike spaces. The ground floor will also contain a community room that opens onto an outdoor landscaped courtyard, as well as a management office, onsite resident services suite, and a computer lab. The building will be certified under Built-It-Green's GreenPoint Rated program targeting Platinum Level. This all-electric building will have sustainable building strategies, including solar panels.
Unit types include studios, one-bedroom apartments, and two-bedroom units. The project has 25 project-based vouchers from Oakland Housing Authority which will support the PSH units.
Algarve Apartments
Algarve Apartments will be an 8-story building located at 1135 E. Santa Clara Street in San José.
The development will add 91 units of affordable homes in Santa Clara County, including 24 apartments set aside for military veterans and 36 permanent supportive housing units for people who have experienced homelessness.
The supportive housing site, developed by Abode Housing Development, will combine affordable homes with wraparound support services for residents.
The state’s Project Homekey+ program awarded $41 million for Algarve Apartments – the largest public funding amount ever received for an Abode development.
Construction is expected to finish in late 2027. Abode Property Management will serve as property manager and Abode Services will provide on-site services.
Casa de Novo Redevelopment
Casa de Novo is a former hotel that has been converted into a supportive housing community in San Jose. Abode Housing Development has owned and managed the 56-unit complex since 2016. The site currently has both long-term apartments and interim housing.
Abode Housing Development plans to redevelop the site and will more than double the number of units, providing more affordable housing to help alleviate the housing crisis in Santa Clara County. Construction of the six-story development will be executed in two phases. Phase I construction is expected to finish by Fall 2024. Phase II is expected to begin in early 2025. After the nearly 1-acre property is redeveloped, each of Casa de Novo’s phases will have 58 new apartments — a total of 116 units.
All apartments will have a full kitchen, bathroom and living space. The homes also will have access to on-site community areas, which will include a large community room, interior courtyard on a terrace above parking spaces, secure bicycle parking, laundry facilities, computer access, and offices and meeting rooms for property management and social services. Abode will provide on-site services for residents, including various life skills, financial planning, job training, physical fitness and wellness, and social services support. Property management staff, including a resident manager who will live at the site, will work with services staff to ensure that residents are able to thrive and remain stably housed.
