Applications for Depot Community Apartments

Depot Community Apartments provides a total of 125 units, including a manager’s apartment, in a fully ADA-accessible building on a 3.1-acre property. About 61 rental units are available via application and waitlist lottery.

Applications will be available starting Friday, May 26 through Monday, June 19, by visiting the Alameda County website and clicking here.

If you are unable to apply online, you can request a paper application by sending an email at depotcommunity@jsco.net or calling 510-665-6277.

In addition, 63 other units are set aside for households referred by Alameda County (Homestretch) via the Coordinated Entry system. These units are for households experiencing homelessness and are extremely low-income.

Property Description

Depot Community Apartments will feature 125 studio units and a manager’s unit in the Mt. Eden neighborhood in Hayward, as the city’s first all-electric new development that achieves the highest sustainability compliance. The development, which will stand 3 and 4 stories high, will provide permanent supportive housing for formerly homeless individuals or those on the verge of experiencing homelessness. We are designing the 3.1-acre site with a special focus on shared amenities and spaces to build community and support self-stabilization. We will share the site with Cronin House, an existing transitional care facility.

Abode will provide on-site services. Each unit will be self-contained with a private bathroom, kitchen and living room/sleeping area. Residents will have access to on-site property management and social services offices. They also will have access to a community room, bike storage, electric-vehicle chargers, dog park, BBQ area, computer lab, half-basketball court, laundry room, private lockers, community garden, art commissioned by local artists, and an outdoor patio for residents’ enjoyment. Residents are expected to begin leasing homes by Spring 2023.
