Janet spent years giving and giving, putting her career on hold while taking care of her mother as she suffered from dementia. After her mother passed away, Janet’s life savings eventually ran out. That forced Janet to live in her car, even as she worked a stressful, full-time job.  

When Covid hit, she found a temporary home before Abode staff helped her find permanent housing. Today, Janet has her own apartment and the stability of a home, which has allowed her to explore again her natural talents as a painter. In her golden years, she is pursuing her lifelong dream of being an artist. “Living here helps me relax and focus on my life,” Janet said. “I’ve returned to making art, and I feel independent and free.”
