Dedicated Work, Lasting Change.

Making a Positive Impact
Where It's Needed Most

As an evidence-based organization, our programs’ statistics and figures reveal the success of our strategies. Our method of combining housing and services to solve homelessness works far better than past, outdated approaches. The proof? It’s all in the numbers.

Abode Throughout the Years

1988

Abode is Founded

Our then-tiny staff, known then as Tri-City Homeless Coalition, starts and soon launches its first program – a winter relief shelter in Fremont.

1995

Launch Rental Assistance Programs

We launch our first rental assistance programs, starting with a handful of landlords partnering with us to rent their apartments to formerly homeless families. Now we work with 1,530 landlords each year.

2004

Abode Provides First Mental Health Program

We began providing intensive case management using assertive community treatment (ACT) to homeless individuals living with persistent mental illness. These services – integrated with housing – helped people secure and sustain housing while improving their wellness.

2005

Abode Begins Building Housing

Abode opens its first tax-credit supportive housing site: Rotary BridgeWay Apartments in Fremont, and forms a strategic alliance, with Abode Housing Development, then known as Allied Housing. So far to date, we have developed 25 housing sites across the Bay Area.

2009

Launch First Program in Santa Clara County

Abode launches our first program in Santa Clara County, marking the beginning of our regional leadership. Abode now works in over 60 cities and 8 counties: Alameda, Santa Clara, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Napa, Solano, and Sonoma.

2012

Start Providing Property Management

We partner with Housing for Independent People, now known as Abode Property Management, ensuring that buildings providing supportive housing receive dignity-centered professional management. Today, we manage nearly 40 properties.

2020

Abode Responds to Covid Crisis

We respond quickly to the Covid-19 health crisis, as our leadership launches the first Isolation & Quarantine and Shelter-in-Place sites in California – which would lead to a total of 13 sites opening in Alameda, Santa Clara, and Napa counties.

Today

Abodes Helps 18,000 People Per Year.

We serve over 18,000 people and administer nearly 160 programs, the most ever for Abode, now one of the Bay Area’s largest and most effective providers of housing and homelessness services.

What Our Participants Say

“Having a home has made a big positive change for my children. They have structure and a sense of direction. Their faces have changed for the better because fear and sadness were replaced by laughter and happiness.”

Sonya

“Now, I see there's a process to building my life. It's just like a house, it takes time. I'm working hard on rebuilding myself. You're helping people who never caught a break before. I'm so grateful for that.”

Donald

“I can focus now on taking care of my health and my family, and enjoying my golden years with dignity. This is the perfect place for me to do that. I could not have made it without Abode.”
