As Chief Executive Officer of Abode, Vivian leads one of the largest, most impactful organizations working towards ending homelessness throughout the Bay Area. Vivian has been a leader at Abode for two decades, transforming Abode from a small nonprofit assisting fewer than 1,000 individuals annually to an industry leader now serving more than 18,000 people a year. Her commitment to excellence, growth of evidence-based practices, and authentic partnerships have helped expand Abode’s impact throughout eight Bay Area counties. Vivian’s passion for Abode’s mission, strategic vision, and deep understanding of its complex and impactful operations have made her uniquely qualified to lead housing and homelessness response efforts in the Bay Area.

Vivian remains focused on ending homelessness by embracing data and robust evaluation to ensure that Abode is pursuing the most impactful strategies, seizing opportunities to leverage private and philanthropic resources to maximize the reach of public funding, and continually expanding our impact by piloting new and promising interventions and serving new communities and areas. Her role relies heavily upon collaborations with a range of stakeholders, including local government representatives, state and federal policymakers, advocates, community-based organizations, and people with lived experience of homelessness – partnerships that help ensure that Abode’s programs are truly reflective of the diverse perspectives, priorities, and needs of the communities that we serve. Since joining Abode in 2006, Vivian has helped guide the organization through significant growth and change, holding a range of leadership roles before being named CEO of Abode Services in January 2024. One year later, she expanded her leadership to the full Abode organization and its family of agencies – Abode Services, Abode Housing Development, and Abode Property Management – bringing a deep understanding of the organization’s mission, programs, and communities served.    

Vivian holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of California, Davis, and a Master’s degree in Social Welfare, Management, and Planning from the University of California, Berkeley. She currently serves on the Santa Clara County Continuum of Care Board and Executive Committee; chairs the Nonprofit Alliance of Homelessness and Housing Providers of Alameda County; serves as an officer of the Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California Board of Directors; and serves on the board of the NPH Action Fund.
