What is the Coordinated Entry System?

Coordinated Entry is a countywide system used throughout California to connect individuals and families experiencing homelessness with housing and supportive services. Through a standardized assessment process, Coordinated Entry helps identify each household's needs and prioritizes available housing resources for those with the greatest vulnerability. This is the first step toward accessing housing programs, shelter, and other support services.

Participant Story Highlight

Caitlin, San Francisco County

Caitlin’s life unraveled when she was pregnant – when she suffered a major injury, the pandemic hit, and her partner left home. That perfect storm of adversity forced her to experience homelessness. But soon her luck changed. She was connected to Abode, whose staff helped her find housing.

She then was selected to receive cash assistance, which has given her the breathing room she needs as she works to get back on her feet. The stability of her home has allowed Caitlin to work, raise her daughter, and become an advocate for mothers. “I really want to be a voice for women, especially single moms,” she said. “I want them to know there are people who will advocate for them, and that they don’t need to be alone.”

City Gardens Apartments

City Gardens Apartments is 200-unit permanent supportive housing community at the western edge of SoMa adjacent to the Mission District in San Francisco, San Francisco County. The community offers studios, two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom units within a multifamily property. Housing is available through the San Francisco Housing Portal (DAHLIA). Developed in partnership with the California Department of Housing and Community Development Homekey program and San Francisco’s Department of Housing and Supportive Housing (HSH), the community is committed to providing stable housing while fostering resident success and neighborhood connection. Resident selection preferences may apply in accordance with program requirements.
